Business Administration Apprentice to Remortgage Paralegal

20 May 2024

Sort Legal are proud to have been awarded a Top 50 SME Apprenticeship employer award. To celebrate, we wanted to shine a light on one of our employees who has recently passed her apprenticeship.

Introducing Faiza, she joined Sort Legal on 10th May 2021 and embarked on an Apprenticeship in Business Administration.

On 19th June, Faiza passed her Apprenticeship, and on 1st July 2023, she was promoted to Remortgage Paralegal.

To celebrate Faiza’s achievements, we sat down with her to talk to her about what her training and development included, what her highlights have been, and her goals for the future.

What did your Apprenticeship involve?  My apprenticeship took 18 months from start to finish. I spent one day at college each week, and the other days were spent in the office, on-the-job training.

I met with my assessor every month to keep up to date. Throughout the apprenticeship, I worked on lots of different modules, including business fundamentals, relevant regulations, stakeholders, communication, IT, quality, planning and organisation and project management.

How was your Apprenticeship graded?

At the end of each module, I had to complete an assignment for that subject matter. At the end of my apprenticeship, I took part in two exams. The first was an hour-based multiple choice exam. The second involved a portfolio interview, where I was asked project-based questions. I am delighted to say I received a 'Distinction' and 'Pass' grade in these exams.

Since you joined in May 2021, what would you say is your proudest achievement so far?

Overall, fitting into the work environment and learning new things that I never knew existed before. I am now more confident and able to remember things from my own knowledge. It makes me happy to be able to help colleagues when they have questions I can comfortably answer.

What are the top three highlights of your time at Sort Legal so far?

·       Fitting into the work environment and starting my Conveyancing career.

·       Manage my own caseload.

·       Dealing with customers on a day-to-day basis.

What would you say to someone wishing to explore an apprenticeship within Conveyancing industry?

I would definitely recommend it. I think an apprenticeship is the way forward into getting into a career in Conveyancing. My apprenticeship has given me key work/business skills that will last me into the future. Learning and earning at the same time is brilliant and is helped by having peers around you who support you when needed. The apprenticeship has given me a new experience and has helped me build relationships with clients, colleagues and our introducers.

What are you looking forward to within the next few years of your career?

I’m looking forward to learning about more complex cases, building my knowledge and confidence even further, and becoming more independent.

What is the next goal you’d like to achieve?

In my personal life, I’m learning to drive. I hope my next goal to achieve is to pass my driving test. That would be the cherry on the cake!
